The magical power of hydration
By Lety Trejo
Some members of my family were athletes at a very young age. In a rather poor and lower middle class environment, sports got the youth ahead and was considered a healthy activity. But when you don’t have a professional trainer or a trained nutritionist or even a notion of the proper preparation for an athlete, this activity can be dangerous.
Why do I say that? Because over the years I have realized that the vast majority of people who venture into the magical world of exercise have no idea how important proper hydration is. They always tell us «drink water» and we drink water: from a jug or from the plastic bottles sold by different brands. These waters do not hydrate, or at least not in the right way. According to the Nutritionist Marcela Torres, specialist in Functional Medicine and Epigenetics, there are two types of hydration: cellular and intracellular. When we drink water that goes through many treatment processes, the water loses its natural minerals, which allows it to go through the outside of the cells leaving the body very quickly. Instead, natural spring waters, or those that go through mineralization processes, reach the inside of the cells being absorbed and used by our entire body.
To say that we are 75% water is simplistic, reducing a much more important process to something almost irrelevant. In reality we are SUBSTRATES, liquids that go through chemical processes that only the organism knows how to produce, measure and combine. Blood, plasma, lymph, cerebrospinal fluid and others are this 75% that are mentioned so much. We depend on a precise and refined production and distribution of nutrients, minerals and proteins so when we are healthy, we are in harmony. In the famous book “La Enfermedad Como Camino” (Illness as a Path) by the Germans Thorwald Dethlefsen and Ruediger Dahlke describe the disease process as a lack of harmony, not only organic but also mental. I will add that our quality of substrates depends on the adequate consumption of nutritious food, water with all its properties, the type of thoughts we have, physical activity and proper rest. This makes us achieve balance to live in fullness.
Did you know that you can make your own moisturizing serum at home? The formula is very simple:
One liter of water
Lemons to taste
A pinch of Himalayan pink salt (or sea salt)
A pinch of baking soda
A moderate amount of agave syrup as a sweetener.
If the person is hypertensive, he/she should consult his/her doctor. Adequate hydration is the cornerstone of the organic balance of all beings on the planet. Do not do intense physical activity if you have not hydrated properly. Some of the symptoms of lack of hydration can be irritability, mental confusion, disorientation, headaches and insomnia. Consult the hydration quantity tables provided by Wikipedia taken from medical publications of important institutions. Health with water, dear reader.
