After following a truck with a woman on board,which appeared to have a person in it who was drunk, police officers from Tizapán el Alto were shot at, leaving two policemen wounded and the police commissioner dead. The attack took place at midday on Sunday, June 12.
The officers were traveling on the highway between Tuxcueca and Tizapán, following the truck with the woman on board to prevent an accident, when suddenly, armed men in another pickup truck opened fire, injuring the two officers and killing the commissioner. The police vehicle’s front window was riddled with bullet holes.
The attackers were ib three vehicles, including a white RAM pickup truck, a black pickup truck and a Toyota Hilux truck. All three vehicles had mounted light bars like those used by police vehicles.
Commander José Antonio Languren was 29 years old and had military training. He was married and had one child. The murdered commander was not publicly honored due to the risks involved in a public fneral.
