Sanitary filters will be maintained; the community is urged to be alert and report suspicious persons
The director of the Civil Protection and Firefighters Unit (UPCB) of Jocotepec, Sergio Herrera, informed that despite the lack of an operation, the agency will carry out prevention operations
Héctor Ruiz Mejía – Three days before the beginning of the Christmas tourist season, which runs from December 12 to January 6, the Jocotepec City Hall has still not announced strategies for the safety of tourists and locals during these Christmas holidays.
Despite the increase in road accidents as a result of recklessness due to the consumption of alcoholic beverages and drugs during the holidays and posadas, so far there will be no sobriety checkpoints to prevent or punish such actions, confirmed Jocotepec President Hugo García Vargas. The Social Communication Department did not provide any additional information on the subject.
The president also expressed his concern regarding the shortage of police personnel in the municipality, despite the fact that José Miguel Gómez López himself, municipal president of Jocotepec, reported on social networks about an increase in robberies and extortion at this time of the year.
For this reason, the president urged the community to «be very alert, very vigilant when they see suspicious people», for which he provided the report number, which is 387-763-0006; «we need you to help us do your part,» he said.
The medical authorities of the municipal clinic, said that their only operation will be to monitor that there are the correct Covid-19 sanitary filters stationed at the entrances of events such as the Tianguis Navideño or Christmas Market.
The medical authorities remind the community to be aware of the use of masks, because «if they only pass through the filter and take off the mask once inside, unfortunately, we can’t do anything about it,» said the doctor.
He pointed out that the pandemic is not over yet and emphasized that protecting oneself from the virus is a personal decision.
The Jocotepec Fire Department will have prevention plans and tours in support of processions such as the one on December 12 in commemoration of the Virgin of Guadalupe, as well as inviting participants to follow sanitary disinfection measures within these events.
The fire department’s safety measures include nightly patrols, rocket regulation operations and bonfire prevention talks. Bonfires on the streets are common in Jocotepec.
Report suspicious activities in Jocotepec to 387-763-0006.
