Alma Serrano (San Juan Cosalá).- The Mexican town ID letters of San Juan Cosalá will be relocated by the City Hall of Jocotepec to the small square in the neighborhood of Fátima, on the Chapala-Jocotepec highway. The identity signage was initially placed on Cardenal Street in September 2018.

Last May 8, personnel of the municipal government began gathering support to move the colorful letters to the small plaza on Zaragoza Street, at the crossroads of the village. 

The delegate of San Juan Cosalá, Carlos Vázquez Reyes, said that the change in the location of the letters was made at the direction of the Department of Urban Image of the municipality of Jocotepec.

«The Department of Urban Image says that this small square looks very lonely,” he commented, “and the reason for placing them [the letters] there is to encourage people to visit the neighborhood of Fátima and to make the square look nicer.”

The huge decorated letters spelling out the town’s name are part of a nationwide government initiative promoting Mexican tourism. As such, their design captures characteristic aspects of the town such as its main square, the parish, the views towards Lake Chapala and the impressive landscape of the San Juan Cosalá mountain range.

The makeshift dwelling was left in ashes.

A makeshift house built on the side of a stream was left in ashes after it caught fire at noon on Friday, May 20, with no injuries reported in the incident. 

At the site, located in the neighborhood of La Purísima, Chapala Public Safety, Civil Protection and Firefighters were present and worked to extinguish the blaze. Only material damages were reported.

Laguna staff.- A new extortion attempt was registered in the municipality of Chapala, this time in Riberas del Pilar, where officers of the State Security Secretariat (SSE) attended and thwarted the crime.

During a surveillance tour on Hidalgo Street, the state officers were stopped by a man who said that he was receiving calls from an unknown number asking for money in exchange for the release of an employee who was supposedly being held hostage.

The police officers accompanied the man and advised him to avoid making any payment and to continue providing information to the alleged kidnappers, they proceeded to search for the employee, who was found near a hotel, confirming that he was in good health.

Héctor Ruiz Mejía (Jocotepec).- With the onset of the rainy season, work began on the clearing and cleaning of watercourses and streams in Jocotepec. 

The Civil Protection and Firefighters Unit of Jocotepec began the operation on May 15. The purpose is to address the factors that may pose a risk to citizens with the arrival of the rainy season.

Work is being carried out to clear obstructions, such as debris and trash from the watercourses under a plan of operations in coordination with the Parks and Gardens, Public Works and Rural Development departments.

Sergio Herrera Robledo, head of the fire department, said that in addition to the clearing work, flood prevention and other actions have also been carried out in different parts of the municipality.

The points considered at risk have already been cleaned by heavy machinery from the Rural Development Department.

Although the social communication department assured that «all year round, before, during and after the rainy season» they carry out clearing operations, there is no record of the amount of material removed to support this.

In contrast, residents of the community of San Juan Cosalá, such as Francisco, said that there are still points that the Civil Protection Unit should work on,  such as the channels at the height of Piedra Barrenada, as they have even removed dead dogs and considerable amounts of trash from there in the past.

Alma Serrano (San Juan Cosalá).- Caritina Ríos Gómez de Santiago, the best known seamstress of San Juan Cosalá, passed away on May 21 at the age of 91. 

Doña Cari was born in the neighboring municipality of Chapala, where she lived until she was 12 years old. It was in 1942 when she moved to the delegation of San Juan Cosalá where she remained until her death. 

Ríos Gómez was the only woman in a small family; she had only two brothers, Jorge and Enrique, who also rested in peace. Caritina married David de Santiago Sánchez in 1952, with whom she had six children: Hortensia, Julio, Jorge, David, Mario and Simón; and she remained married to him until the day of his death. 

Her two great passions in life were sewing, an activity she carried out since she was 15 years old, and singing, for which she always shared her voice at parties and family birthdays. 

Her only daughter, Hortensia de Santiago, 70 years old, affirmed that her mother had fulfilled her goals and dreams during her life because Doña Cari was a very happy woman, dedicated to her family and to the tasks she set for herself. 

Until her last days, Caritina Ríos was remembered as a «very good and strong» woman, by neighbors and relatives, even though she no longer remembered many people and things and, of course, she did not have the same physical condition to move around.

On May 9, 2022, she had surgery, which worsened some health problems. 

She was cared for by relatives after the operation, as she no longer ate, drank or got out of bed. They remained that way until Saturday, May 21, at two o’clock in the morning, the moment of her natural death. 

She was buried in a grave for nine people, next to her husband, one of her children and her parents, as she had wished. 

Doña Cari was a religious, kind, faithful, altruistic and beloved person in the town to which she gave more than 75 years of her life. Most people knew her, not only for being the best-known seamstress in San Juan Cosalá, but also for her infallible and characteristic personality that will remain in memory.

Eduardo Ulises G. fue detenido y permanecerá en prisión preventiva oficiosa durante un año. Foto ilustrativa: El Sol de Toluca. 

Redacción.- La Fiscalía Especial Regional del Distrito V con sede en Chapala, logró la captura de Eduardo Ulises G., probable responsable de una agresión a balazos que sufrió un hombre en el municipio de El Salto; ya fue vinculado.

La Fiscalía informó mediante un boletín de prensa que dicho sujeto enfrenta un proceso penal por los delitos de disparo de arma de fuego y ataque peligroso, por lo que a solicitud del agente del Ministerio Público deberá permanecer en prisión preventiva oficiosa durante un año, como medida cautelar.

Según las pesquisas realizadas el pasado cinco de mayo, aproximadamente a las 13:30 horas, el ahora imputado en compañía de otros dos hombres, viajaban en un automotor Chevrolet pickup, tipo S10 en color azul, con el cual interceptaron a un masculino quien conducía un vehículo Jeep Liberty en color azul, en la calle Girasoles de la colonia Las Pintas, en El Salto.

 Acto seguido, Eduardo Ulises G. y otro sujeto, presuntamente le realizaron disparos con una pistola al hombre de la Jeep, quien para salvaguardar su integridad, logró escapar del sitio corriendo, dejando abandonada la unidad que tripulaba con  daños por proyectiles de arma de fuego en la tapa trasera y el cristal medallón.

 Mediante los trabajos realizados por el agente del Ministerio Público y de la Policía de Investigación pertenecientes al Distrito V, se lograron reunir datos de prueba contra Eduardo Ulises G. que acreditaron su probable responsabilidad en la comisión de los delitos de disparo de arma de fuego y ataque peligroso, por lo que se solicitó una orden de aprehensión en su contra y fue capturado.

Redacción.- La Comisión Estatal de los Derechos Humanos de Jalisco (CEDHJ) emitió recomendaciones por haber ocultado por casi 10 años los resultados de un estudio  sobre los problemas de salud de menores de edad en la cuenca del Río Santiago. 

La dependencia señaló que fue la Comisión Estatal del Agua (CEA), la Secretaría de Salud Jalisco, y el OPD Servicios de Salud Jalisco quienes violaron los derechos humanos a la legalidad y seguridad jurídica; a la protección de la salud; al medio ambiente sano; y a los derechos de acceso en materia medioambiental. 

Debido a que por casi 10 años, desde mediados de la administración del Gobernador Emilio González Márquez y toda la de Aristóteles Sandoval, se ocultó e ignoró el estudio. 

La denuncia ante la CEDHJ que propició la recomendación fue realizada en 2019 por el grupo ambientalista Un Salto de Vida A.C. Dicha organización dijo que durante un recorrido auspiciado por el gobierno del estado ese mismo año se dio a conocer la existencia de un estudio realizado entre 2009 y 2010 por la Universidad Autónoma de San Luis Potosí (UASLP) sobre el fallido proyecto de la presa de Arcediano.

Asimismo, Alan Carmona, integrante de esta agrupación señaló que, pese a que el estudio fue revelado a inicios de 2020, el actual Gobierno de Jalisco tampoco ha atendido los graves problemas de contaminación industrial en el Río Santiago. 

La recomendación de la CEDH fue presentada el pasado lunes seis de junio, donde se detallan las acciones que deben seguir tanto los alcaldes como los legisladores e instituciones gubernamentales. 

Las peticiones fueron dirigidas a once instancias estatales y federales con la finalidad de resarcir los daños ocasionados a las personas residentes de las poblaciones aledañas a la cuenca.

Redacción.- La Fiscalía Especial para Personas Desaparecidas (FEPD) de la Fiscalía de Jalisco, reportó que como resultado de las labores de búsqueda, durante el mes pasado se logró la localización de 204 niñas, niños, adolescentes, mujeres y hombres, por quienes existía una denuncia por desaparición. 

Asimismo informó que del periodo comprendido entre los días 28 de mayo al 3 de junio del presente año, se implementaron 55 operativos de búsqueda de personas en el estado, además de que como parte de las indagatorias realizadas se logró la judicialización de dos personas.

La FEPD también tuvo acercamiento con 720 personas con motivo de la presentación de informes relacionados a los avances en sus indagatorias y asesoría legal, o para recibir alguna denuncia. En el mismo contexto de atención al usuario, se brindaron 161 terapias psicológicas a víctimas directas e indirectas.

Específicamente en el área de Alerta Amber Jalisco, se localizó a nueve adolescentes durante el mismo periodo que se reporta, mientras que Protocolo Alba a 6 mujeres adultas.

La dependencia indicó que todas estas personas ya fueron reintegradas a su núcleo familiar y se desprende que su ausencia fue motivada por decisión personal y no se relacionó con la comisión de algún ilícito. 

Por otra parte, en la semana que comprendió del 30 de mayo al 5 de junio, se logró la localización de un total de 44 personas y 13 niñas, niños y adolescentes por las cuales existía denuncia.

Redacción.- La Fiscalía del Estado de Jalisco (FE), a través de la Fiscalía Regional, abrió una carpeta de investigación en torno a la muerte de una menor de 3 años de edad, además de las lesiones por proyectil de arma de fuego que sufrió su padre, en el municipio de Tizapán El Alto.

El pasado tres de junio, a las 22:50 horas aproximadamente, la policía recibió un reporte que sobre la calle Lauro Caloca, en el cruce de Francisco Dávalos, de la colonia San Gabriel, una menor y un masculino habían sido lesionados por arma de fuego.

Aunque las personas lesionadas fueron trasladadas al Hospital de Tizapán El Alto para su atención médica, momentos después se reportó el deceso de la menor.

Tras los hechos, elementos de la Policía del Estado que fungieron como primeros respondientes acudieron al lugar y procedieron a la detención del posible agresor asegurándole el arma.

De las primeras indagatorias se informó que el presunto agresor, un hombre de 82 años de edad identificado como Jaime “N”, salió de su domicilio con un arma de fuego la cual detonó  en contra de las víctimas, padre e hija, lo anterior porque causaban ruido afuera de su casa, además en los disparos también resultó lesionado el atacante.

El probable responsable de estos hechos quedó a disposición del agente del Ministerio Público, quien resolverá su situación jurídica en el término constitucional.  

El cuerpo de la niña fue trasladado al anfiteatro para la necropsia de ley.

Héctor Ruiz Mejía (Jocotepec).- The teaching staff of the Center for Technological Studies in Continental Waters (CETAC 01), in Jocotepec, is on technical strike (not a classic strike, but working with modified conditions like shorter hours by mutual agreement) over a labor dispute.

The dispute began on May 12 and, as of May 23, despite attempts at dialogue, there is still no resolution.

After a series of accusations of labor inconsistencies by the educational personnel of CETAC 01, with the support of the National Union of Education Workers (SNTE), Section 16, they are requesting an immediate resolution to the alleged infractions.

They are demanding a solution to problems including salary, overtime, seniority incentives and retirement bonuses, as well as immediate compensation to managers unpaid for eight months.

On Facebook, the user Eriika Naye posted that her husband “has not received his salary as a manager since last August, a little more than eight months». and the family is struggling.

In addition to the salary demands, the teachers and administrative personnel are also demanding a solution to the admission process for qualified personnel, and filling positions vacant due to retirement and death.  

The disagreement between the teaching staff and the academic institution began a little more than five months after Norma Angelica Huerta García was sworn in as the new director of the campus.  She was not available to issue a statement on the matter, except to assure that «they are working on the dialogues to find a solution».
