The bus was embedded in the back of the truck.
Redaction. – The apparent carelessness of a public transport driver left 35 injured and his bus embedded in a junkyard truck. The accident occurred during the afternoon of March 28 on the Chapala-Guadalajara highway, at the height of the so-called «curves of El Tapatío.»
The passengers waited for medical attention on the pavement.
According to the passengers, the driver of the C112 Agaves route was speeding and maneuvering to overtake other vehicles, but on the slope, a truck loaded with scrap metal was driving slowly because of its heavy load, so the public transport driver was unable to slow down enough to avoid the scrap metal truck and struck it from behind.
After the impact, people fell to the floor of the bus and some of them hit the seats hard enough to bend them. The passengers managed to get out of the bus and waited on the roadside for medical attention.

Chapala will continue to pay rent on the building.

The agreement established last March 25 between Chapala Mayor Alejandro de Jesús Aguirre Curiel and Regional Police Commissioner Abraham Isaac Chávez Velázquez, will allow the State Police to relocate from a small building in La Cristianía Park.
The move gives the State Police better facilities from which to continue working in coordination with the Municipal Police. This helps guarantee the safety of the population just days before the start of the Holy Week and Easter vacation period.

Jalisco Secretary of Public Security Juan Bosco Pacheco Medrano said the building is a tool that dignifies police work and helps the State Police coordinate with the municipality to provide peace of mind to both residents and tourists.
“I am pleased to inform you that we have delivered dignified facilities on loan for elements of the State Security Secretariat to have their base of operations,” the mayor said through social media. “The safety and tranquility of the families of Chapala and its visitors is a priority for this government.”

Chapala has rented the building since 1998. It was the Municipal Police headquarters until June 2020, when they moved to their new location at the corner of Los Maestros and Isla del Presidio streets. The State Highway Police, with whom the State Police will share the building, began working out of the building a few months ago.

Public and civil servants wore purple shirts to support the Unite Orange Campaign. Photo: Jazmín Stengel.
Jazmín Stengel (Chapala).- The United Nations’ «Orange Unite Campaign» was instituted in 2008 to promote the prevention of violence against women, and takes place on the 25th of each month. Although it has been a little more than 13 years since the campaign opposing violence against women was instituted, this is the first year it has been celebrated in Chapala.
In Chapala, officials and civilians wore purple tee shirts instead of the customary orange, as citizens associate the color with the feminist movement, explained Alicia Medeles Córdova. Córdova is the director of the Women’s Institute of Chapala, who made the proposal after the March 8 International Women’s Day marches and other demonstrations against gender violence in the municipality. The public security officers of the municipality also wore an orange ribbon as a symbol of solidarity with the movement.

In addition to promoting the prevention of violence against women in her locality and delegations, Córdova offers counseling and follow-up to those who have been victims of violence, harassment and other types of aggression. She invites the affected population to lose their fear of speaking out and to begin the legal process to defend their human rights.
«The objective is to make a call to the citizenship and that we raise awareness,» clarified Cordova, since the purpose of this campaign at the international level is the same: «a day to act, generate awareness and prevent violence against women and girls.»

Smoke was visible from several parts of the Guadalajara-Morelia highway
Editor.- A fire in the hills of Jocotepec, between the districts of El Molino and Huejotitán, generated a huge column of smoke that was visible to motorists traveling on the Guadalajara-Morelia highway on the afternoon of Wednesday, March 30.
On social networks, people commented that there were damaged wire fences, burned pasture and environmental damage, blaming the incident on people who were vandalizing the area.
At this time of the year, it is common to see an increase in rural fires. Some are generated naturally, others due to accidents caused by farmers burning plots of land, or by people who want to subdivide the hillsides.

Editor.- A strong fire in the Libertad market, better known as San Juan de Dios, surprised the city of Guadalajara during the early hours of Thursday, March 31, affecting 430 businesses and damaging the historic building.

The president of Guadalajara, Pablo Lemus, went to the site of the fire Friday morning to assess the damage to the southern part of the market where food, clothing and sundries are sold. He stated that a short circuit of an illegal electric installation may have been the cause of the disaster.
The shopkeepers waited behind police barricades, uncertain as to whether their businesses were affected. When they were allowed to enter the market in small groups, tears and feelings of helplessness were evident. Many could not believe what had happened.
No injuries were reported from the incident, but there were multiple economic losses. The Government of Guadalajara and the Government of Jalisco announced that they will provide support to those who were affected.

Approximately 25 people helped in the removal of the cyclone fences. Photo: Sofía Medeles.
Sofía Medeles (Ajijic).– After more than six months of inactivity, the group Pueblos Unidos de la Ribera resumed removing illegal fences on Federal land, this time in the eastern part of Ajijic. The group rallied about 25 people on March 28 to remove two fences that obstructed the passage along the shore of Lake Chapala.
The first fence was located at the end of Donato Guerra street . The group contacted the owner by telephone who claimed to have a concession from the National Water Commission (CONAGUA) and to maintain this fence for the safety of her home. However an agreement was not reached with her to leave the fence intact.
Initially, the woman agreed to show her documents supporting the use of the federal land, but minutes later, she told them that she should not show anything to anyone other than an authority, so the group proceeded to remove the chain-link cyclone fence
During the first demolition, officers of the Chapala police arrived and said that only a report would be made of the action. However, several activists pointed out that they were asked to identify themselves and have their faces photographed. They complained that they felt intimidated by the officers because they were carrying weapons although no weapons were drawn at any time.
Later, the protestors moved further to the east of the town, at the top of Revolucion Street, where a farm under construction had been fenced almost to the edge of the lake. The chain-link was quickly removed, however, the next day it was put up again.

After the removal of these invasions of federal property, those gathered talked about other points in Ajijic that have the same situation, agreeing to monitor and re-remove fences in the places that had already been liberated to the west of the delegation, as well as to help people from other towns to replicate the «anti-fencing» movement.
» We miss the times when you could walk from Chapala to Jocotepec along the lake shore. Those times will return, if we all unite for this cause, so that our descendants can enjoy the free beaches, which are everyone’s right,» said a member of Pueblos Unidos de la Ribera.
Last April 1st, the activists met again to support residents of the San Antonio Tlayacapan and then continued on to the Pueblo Mágico.
Pueblos Unidos de la Ribera is a movement that was formed early in August 2021. After three actions in which all kinds of fences were torn down on the eastern beaches, between the area of Tio Domingo and Villa Lucerna, they decided to demonstrate at the offices of CONAGUA in Guadalajara.
Although the agency «gave in» and promised to be more attentive to the invasions by deploying more inspectors, in addition to indicating that they were not committing a crime by removing the obstructions, to date, CONAGUA has ignored the agreements.
