«Temporary» dumps by City Hall persist, according to neighbors of the community of San Luciano.
Héctor Ruiz Mejía: About ten tons of garbage has accumulated near the Guadalajara – Morelia ramp by the San Juan Cosalá highway, reported neighbors of the community.
According to those interviewed, City Hall personnel continue to dump garbage on the stretch about 20 meters before the ramp leading to Guadalajara from the Carretera.
«We have already reported it, but it seems that this will continue and it makes us sad,» commented one of the complainants who travels daily along the stretch and sees the gradual increase in garbage.
Those interviewed said that there is already about ten tons of garbage accumulated and that despite the reports, there has been no response from the municipality.
Residents of the community of San Luciano lament the clandestine dumping of garbage.
“Apparently, they have made it a temporary landfill,» one of the interviewees stated, and expressed his concern about the garbage collection crisis, which persists and, in his eyes, does not seem to be coming to an end. The situation has been going on for some time and is beginning to generate complications, such as the release of bad odors, as well as the contamination of the land and the landscape.
Although Semanario Laguna has not yet been to the site of the report, the neighbors claimed with despair that this will continue, and urged the City Hall to take action on the matter.
This is not the first incident of clandestine garbage dumping:, one person interviewed recalled that Semanario Laguna had covered another incident in the community of San Luciano.
Neighbors of the community were concerned about the possibility that it will be another temporary dump. The community is waiting to see what will happen with the waste generated by the Señor del Monte festivities, as they remain skeptical about the fate of the waste.
«Let’s just hope they already have a landfill to deposit all the garbage from the festivities, we don’t want them to come and dump it here,» urged the residents of the community of San Luciano.

Cleanup of Emiliano Zapata street, where workers picked up debris, tires and an abandoned vending cart (Photo: Delegación Ajijic 2021-2024).
Sofía Medeles (Ajijic, Jal.)- After government workers clean Ajijic’s streets and removed handbills, armchairs, tires and even an abandoned vintage vehicle, the Head of Office of the Ajijic delegation, Maximiliano Max Macías Arceo asked people to stop discarding their trunks and garbage in the streets.
Max commented that in the last stretch they cleaned, Zapata Street from its intersection with Revolución, within two blocks the truck was full of tires, old chairs, and other junk thrown on the side of the street. The workers also cleaned the creek in the Ajijic Cemetery for the third time because people throw so much garbage in it. He added that the cleanup work will continue over the next few days.

«In the case of the cemetery, a budget has already been requested for a gate because the creek is always open and used as a dumping ground for debris, garden garbage, and old furniture. The entrance of people will not be affected, only the creek will be closed, and signs posted with the number of the delegation for reports of this practice», commented Max.
He also e said that they have received many reports about the streets, requesting cleanings so he asked for the support of the residents to keep the streets clean for a long time.
«In some cases, it is cleaned, and a few days later, the garbage is back. This is because in some places the garbage bags are put outside before the truck passes, like the night before, and the stray dogs break the bags. So the next day the people from the truck only take the bags that are closed , forcing us to clean up garbage constantly. I ask for your support to remove the garbage in a timely manner,» he said.

Max, said that if any inhabitant of the delegation needs to throw away tires, instead of taking them to the street, they should call the number of the delegation (33 3490 0382), so that they can be picked up for an amount of 10 pesos per tire, and they will be sent to Ecology Chapala which pays 12 pesos per tire for them to be discarded.
Likewise, for large items, such as furniture, the delegation offers the service, because it has authorization from the landfill to pick them up and take them to their final destination. He commented that the service is free, and to request it, they also have to call the number of the delegation.

Jazmín Stengel / D. Arturo Ortega – The Chapala Fire and Civil Protection Unit, or UPCB, worked 298 incidents during Operation Joy in Chapala, carried out between December 15 and January 6.
During this period, the Highway Department and the Chapala UPCB reported 27 accidents, three of which were rollovers, another three involved motorcycles and one was a driver pinned in his car. The remaining 20 were “regular” cases, according to the report.
Also reported were 33 pre-hospital care and four emergency transfers outside the municipality, in addition to the care of three deceased persons and four rescues, of which one was a water rescue. There were also 18 fires, seven of which resulted in material losses, according to the Chapala Fire Department report.
The amount of illegal pyrotechnics in the municipality has also decreased. In the first nine days of the operation, the UPCB reported seizing 14 kg of pyrotechnics, while in previous years they seized as much as 80 kilograms (2018-2019), as reported by Semanario Laguna in its January 6 edition.
The UPCB reported only three pyrotechnics seizures during the holiday season that extends from the December 12 fiesta de la Virgen de Guadalupe through the January 6 day of the Three Kings. Weyler Samuel Ruíz, in charge of the unit, said they added up to at most 250 grams of gunpowder. This is because the neutral material, such as paper and wood, is not included in the weight because the only illegal substance is the gunpowder, “and this is usually very little,” said Ruíz, referring to the amount contained in each rocket.
On the other hand, two businesses were reprimanded during the operation’s holidays, both for being open too late and allowing loud music over the decibel limit. Both businesses are in Ajijic and belong to the bar-cantina business.

In Jalisco, 80 deaths due to accidents in general were recorded during the December 2020 holiday period, which is equivalent to 29 percent less than during the same period in 2019.
With the arrival of the Christmas holidays, the Jalisco Ministry of Health (SSJ), through the State Council for the Prevention of Addictions (CECAJ) and the State Council for the Prevention of Accidents (CEPAJ), reiterates the call to the population to celebrate the Christmas holidays safely.
The operational coordinator of CEPAJ, José Parra Sandoval, called on the general population to follow preventive measures to avoid common accidents during the Christmas holiday period.
«We are already seeing an increase in the number of motor vehicles on public roads where the main problem is speeding, so I invite you to take precautions and time to move from one place to another and the most important thing is not to drive if you have already ingested an alcoholic beverage,» he said.
Parra Sandoval reported that during last year’s holiday period from December 12, 2020 to January 6, 2021, there were 80 deaths in Jalisco due to accidents in general. This was 29 percent lower than December of the previous year.
«If you are going out, avoid consuming alcoholic beverages, people confuse rest with carelessness since the first thing they think of is to take the beer or tequila to be able to drive in those conditions. If you love your family, take care of yourselves, so we invite you to celebrate safely with your families and friends,» said the official.
Parra Sandoval made the following recommendations in order to continue reducing the number of deaths caused by accidents in the state:
Fireworks
Do not play with fireworks and, if they are used, they must be light and non-explosive; they must also meet regulations. Children may not buy them or handle them without adult supervision.
These devices should only be lit outdoors away from gas sources, such as tanks and cylinders. It is very dangerous to keep them in pockets due to the friction that could be generated by movement.
Avoid directing fireworks toward people. Keep a prudent distance from people, and also from castles and fireworks launchers.
Fire hazards
Extinguish heat sources before sleeping or leaving home. These include stoves, heaters, braziers, gas lamps, boilers, candles, etc..
Do not allow children to handle lighters or matches.
Do not overload electronic circuits with Christmas decorations.
Protect plugs and contacts.
Do not serve very hot food to children.
Prevent children from playing in the kitchen and leave the handles of pans and pots towards the central part of the stove.
In case of minor burns, place the injured part under a gentle stream of water.
In case of serious burns, cover the injured area with a clean, dry, lint-free cloth. In addition, carefully remove rings, watches, belts or tight clothing that compress the affected area before it begins to swell.
Maintain body temperature and transport the victim to the nearest medical facility or call 911 for an ambulance.
At home
Supervise children at all times, and prevent them from playing in the kitchen.
Keep medicines and chemicals locked away or on high shelves and in their original containers.
Take special care when floors are wet.
Avoid having objects on the floor that are easy to trip over.
Securely cover basins and water storage tanks.
On public roads
Always use seat belts or child restraint systems.
Respect pedestrians and speed limits.
If drinking alcohol, avoid driving.
Avoid overcrowding in vehicles.
Carry a first aid kit and a tool kit.
Check the mechanical condition of your vehicle before driving.
On vacation:
Locate the emergency post of the place where you are going to vacation.
If traveling with children, make sure that all activities are carried out with an adult.
Avoid running next to swimming pools or on wet floors.
If extreme sports are practiced, do so with the necessary equipment and with an established company.

Two private vehicles were involved in the accident
On Tuesday, December 14, there was another collision on the Chapala-Jocotepec highway in Upper La Floresta. The incident involved two private vehicles.
A turquoise Notte hit a white Versa at the first traffic circle in La Floresta, one street away from El Torito, at the entrance to Ajijic. The collision caused a huge traffic jam, which cleared once the damaged vehicles were brought to the side of the road.

Photo: Family van involved in an accident in El Molino.
Once again there was an accident on the Guadalajara-Morelia highway, near El Molino in the municipality of Jocotepec. The vehicle involved in the accident was a family van. No serious injuries were reported. It appears that speeding was the cause of the accident, and resulted in traffic jams in the area where lanes were reduced. This location has been a constant source of accidents.
