Redacción.- Con el objetivo de que los asistentes a los eventos que forman parte del Encuentro Internacional del Mariachi y la Charrería disfruten con tranquilidad de las tradicionales verbenas, oficiales de la Secretaría de Seguridad del Estado (SSE) brindarán acompañamiento en las sedes de Jocotepec, Mazamitla y Puerto Vallarta.

Este lunes 29 de agosto, oficiales del agrupamiento Ateneas y policías de la Comisaría Regional llevarán a cabo patrullajes pie a tierra y en bicicleta sobre las inmediaciones del malecón de Jocotepec, en donde también se instalará una torre de vigilancia.

La Gala comenzará con una misa cantada al Señor del Huaje a las 05:30 de la tarde, para posteriormente iniciar la presentación de los tres mariachis. 

 Asimismo, el 2 de septiembre los elementos de la SSE se trasladarán a la Plaza principal de Mazamitla, en donde, además de los patrullajes, realizarán actividades de proximidad con los asistentes. Mientras que el día 4 se tendrán recorridos con los mismos objetivos en el Malecón de Puerto Vallarta.

 Estos policías estarán acompañados por un centro de mando itinerante, que tiene como objetivo facilitar la comunicación entre dependencias de seguridad en caso de que se presente algún tipo de emergencia.

Armando Esquivel.- Son ocho jóvenes las que buscarán llevarse en este 2022 la corona “Señorita Jocotepec”, certamen de belleza realizado en el marco de las Fiestas Patrias. Las contendientes de entre 17 y 19 años y en su mayoría estudiantes, fueron presentadas en la plaza principal de Jocotepec, la noche del 13 de agosto.

Estefanía Guillén, de San Pedro Tesistán; Kijana del Toro, de Potrerillos; Regina de la Rosa Flores, de San Cristóbal Zapotitlán; Vanessa Medina, de San Juan Cosalá; Ximena Elizabeth Pérez Jiménez, de Chantepec; Cynthia Jaqueline Medina Torres, de Jocotepec; Sara Elizabeth Trujillo, de Jocotepec y Ximena Stephanie Alvarado, también de Jocotepec, son quienes participarán por el título “Señorita Jocotepec 2022”.

Durante la presentación, llegaron familiares de las candidatas, posicionándose en primera fila para gritar porras a sus conocidas, mostrando carteles, alzando globos y viviendo un ambiente de fiesta.

Una por una, subieron al escenario para presentarse, mencionando su nombre, el lugar en el que residen, así como sus gustos y ocupación. Las participantes realizaron una pasarela por el escenario, luciendo todas prendas en color blanco.

La ganadora del certamen se dará a conocer hasta el jueves 15 de septiembre, fecha en la que se coronará a la reina de las fiestas patrias, antes de dar el tradicional Grito de Independencia, a realizarse en la plaza principal de Jocotepec.

La últia edición de “Señorita Jocotepec” la ganó la representante de la comunidad de El Molino.

Redacción. – Los equipos de Puerto Vallarta en su rama femenil y Tequila e la varonil se coronaron como los campeones de la Copa Jalisco 2022 de fútbol amateur con un record de asistencia nunca antes visto en la serie.

Fueron alrededor de 45 mil, 500 personas en su mayoría del interior del estado quienes acudieron a apoyar a su equipo favorito al Estadio Jalisco, durante la mañana y tarde del domingo 14 de agosto.

Fueron cuatro meses de actividad, 576 partidos y 192 equipos los que participaron durante el torneo en sus dos categorías.

El equipo de Vallarta se impuso sobre sus similares de Cuquío, con un marcador de 3 – 0, mientras que en la categoría varonil Tequila logró vencer a Tomatlán con un resultado similar.

Los equipos que se llevaron el triunfo, han ganado un viaje a España y para los segundos lugares, uno a Colombia como parte de la premiación del torneo otorgada por el Gobierno del Estado.

Alma Serrano (San Juan Cosalá).-  For the second consecutive year after the pandemic, residents of San Juan Cosalá celebrated the Patron Saint Festivities in honor of San Juan Bautista, which will last from June 15 to 25. 

According to the religious program, every day of the novena there will be an aurora rosary at 6:00 in the morning; while in the evening, the mass after the pilgrimages will be at 7:00. Finally, at 8:00 in the evening there will be serenades. 

On June 16 and 18 were Confirmations and First Communions officiated by the Episcopal Vicar.

On June 23rd there will be the «Entrada de cera,» the entrance of the artisan wax candles. On the 24th there will be mass at 7:00 in the evening and the fireworks castle will be burned at 9:00 at night.

On Saturday, June 25 there will be the traditional procession with the restored image of the saint from the church to the boardwalk at 7:45 pm, and the thanksgiving mass to end the festivities will be at 8:30 pm.

Redacción.- Bajo el lema “Custodia nuestra Vida entre tus brazos”, la Virgen de Zapopan visitará Chapala este domingo 10 de julio. 

La visita 67 de la Generala al Lago de Chapala dará inicio a las 10:30 de la mañana con la recepción de la imagen en en la entrada del municipio por la carretera a Guadalajara, a la altura de la gasolinera.

De ahí, la Virgen será trasladada en un carro alegórico hasta el malecón, donde a las 11:30 se hará la bendición del lago en la espera de un buen temporal de lluvias, para posteriormente celebrar la Eucaristía en la parroquia de San Francisco de Asís, ceremonia que será presidida por el Cardenal Francisco Robles Ortega. 

El lunes 11 de julio a las 09:30 a.m. la Virgen de Zapopan navegará por las aguas del Lago de Chapala para visitar la Isla de los Alacranes. 

Luego del recorrido, la Generala regresará a la parroquia alrededor de las 12:00 del mediodía y las 04:00 de la tarde se celebrará la misa de despedida. Finalmente, a las 04:45 se cantará el Salve para iniciar su retorno a la Basílica de Zapopan.

A.R. Gurney was one of America’s prolific playwrights. Over his career he wrote over 50 plays, many winning multiple awards.  He was also a challenging playwright – challenging to actors, directors, and audiences in their complexity and layers. His play “The Dining Room”,  set in a single room, requires 18 set changes – a stage manager’s nightmare. But it pales in comparison to the challenge presented by  Scenes From American Life which introduces100 characters in 40 scenes that randomly appear over 5 decades, all played by a handful of actors.

The Bare Stage and director Rosann Balbontin took on this challenge  and they succeeded, producing a striking display of extraordinary acting, subtle but on-target directing, and logistical brilliance that delivers 90 minutes of entertaining and fascinating – if not always easily understandable  –  theater.

“Scenes from American Life,” which opens Friday June 24 at the Bare Stage Theater in Riberas del Pilar,  was written as dramatic comedy by A.R. Gurney uses a series of random vignettes that span 50 years but focused on one family to hilariously skewer the upper classes in Buffalo, New York, and by extension, everywhere. But despite the many witty  barbs and cultural references  Gurney  loads the work with, it was actually written to show off the talents of the actors,  and Balbontin took full advantage of it.

The play was originally written for 8 actors who must portray a wide assortment of characters  and situations in time periods,  ranging from  1930 to 1990s.  Each actor has to go from tragic to comic, from oblivious to angry, from youth to old age, from one character to another in the blink of an eye.  And they do it flawlessly for the most part.

Just to make it a little more challenging, Bare Stage is presenting the play with 6 actors (probably all they could fit on the stage) , not the 8 called for by Gurney, meaning each actor has a few extra characters to  portray. On stage were Mark Donaldson, Sharon Jarvis, Kathleen Morris, Roxanne Rosenblatt, Tony Wilshere, and Ken Yakiwchuk , all of whom not only moved  from character to character like shapeshifters in Star Trek, but also were in the right place with the right lines for the right character through all 40 scenes. I don’t know how they did it – kudos to Director Rosann Balbontin for putting this puzzle together.

There is no plot; there are a couple of common elements in  most of the scenes, but they are hard to follow, so I don’t recommend it. Otherwise you would have to sit in the audience with a scorecard or spreadsheet to figure where each scene fits into the play’s trajectory; just go with the flow.

A few scenes are likely to be  jarring to a modern audience because they foreshadow situations in the US that never materialized. Just accept that the play debuted in 1970 when there were anti-Vietnam War activists and Nixon was spying on them. Watergate was still 2 years away. However, there are some scenes that resonate today, although in ways the playwright could not imagine.

This is a complex play but it really invites you to not overthink it. Just take each bit as it comes and laugh along the way. Watching the acting is pure joy; you can think about what it all means  later.

Laguna Reviewers. The Lakeside Little Theater kicked off its 2022 ART  (Ajijic Readers Theater ) series of live read plays with a riveting tale that blends humor, heart-wrenching pain and emotional release in a splendid reading of the Stephen Belber script  “Match, directed by Lynn Gutstadt.

Shawn Sherwood shines as Tobi, the talkative, story-telling, aging choreographer-teacher who inside is deeply sad and lonely. He is interviewed at his home by Lisa, played by Linda Goman, and her husband Mike, played by Mark Nichols, under the pretense of interviewing him for Lisa’s thesis. In reality they are trying to glean information that would establish that Tobi is Mike’s father from a brief affair 43 years earlier.

The interview goes off the rails – and the play explodes with passion – when Mike veers into the dance community’s sex life in 1959, ultimately accusing Tobi of impregnating his mother and desertion and forcibly extracting a DNA sample from him. The scene brings forth Mike’s anger and angst in a precisely calibrated performance by Nichols that changes what had been a humorous scene into an exciting physical drama.

In the second act while Mike is offstage, Goman, who has been playing Lisa with quiet intelligence masking a deep vulnerability, brings her character’s vulnerability to the surface, pouring her heart out in a deeply moving conversation with Tobi that veers from her loneliness, her husband’s pain, to the mutual joy of cunnilingus. The chemistry between the two, and the contrast between Tobi’s extroverted raw emotion and her quiet cry for attention is palpable and  wrenching.  

Donna Burroughs as Narrator expertly sets the scenes, visualizing the action and providing the audience a physical and emotional context that gives life to the stark stage furnished only with the chairs and the music stands of the actors.

Gutstadt injected a higher level of energy into the production by directing the actors to leave their chairs and engage in critical scenes, a welcome departure from the usual custom of actors staying in their chairs during a live read, regardless of the scene’s physicality.

This is a thumbs-up play that is at once funny and sad, with spot-on acting and deft direction  that blends and highlights both emotions. The language is explicit, the emotions are raw, the laughs are real, and the characters are ones you won’t forget soon.  A well-chosen and powerful beginning to the ART series. “Match” runs June 17,18, 18. Note: some  of the emotional scenes in Act 2 are delivered with quiet, emotion-constrained voices that may be hard to discern, especially in the back rows. Audience members with restricted hearing may want to use the free hearing assistance  headphones available in the lobby.

Alma Serrano.- La Escuela Secundaria Foránea Número 58 “Miguel Hidalgo y Costilla”, de San Juan Cosalá, celebró el pasado 10 de junio la riqueza cultural del estado de Jalisco con un evento enfocado en su gastronomía y turismo.

La celebración, dirigida por el profesor Gerardo Tolentino Zamora, abrió con la presentación del programa, con énfasis en la gastronomía, resaltando los platillos y dulces típicos, con la participación del Ballet Folclórico Coxala, de la maestra Celina Camarena. 

Los exalumnos miembros de la Asociación Civil Niños de Chapala y Ajijic, expusieron que son una asociación dedicada a otorgar becas a alumnos destacados académicamente en el nivel secundaria, preparatoria y universidad.  

Asimismo, se reconoció la participación y creatividad de los alumnos del profesor Tolentino, ya que ellos se encargaron de crear los logotipos, slogan, folletos y una página web.

Como invitados se tuvieron a más de 80 personas, entre los presentes estuvieron familiares de los alumnos, profesores, extranjeros y amigos. El evento finalizó con la intervención musical del trío cosalense “Linaje Bohemio”. 

Presentation of the program.  

The Galas del Mariachi will come to Jocotepec for the first time. The Lakeside municipality will host the XXIX Encuentro Internacional del Mariachi y la Charrería, August 25 to September 4.

The event is being held outside of the traditional Guadalajara to help promote tourism to other Jalisco municipalities and bring the musical quality of this genre to other places. Mariachis from Mexico, Colombia, Chile, the United States, Bolivia, Israel, Peru, Ecuador, and the Dominican Republic will attend the event. 

Puerto Vallarta, Cocula, Tequila, Mazamitla, Chapala, and Tapalpa will also host programs for the Mexican musical event.  

Jocotepec’s participation in the Encuentro Internacional del Mariachi y la Charrería will showcaseJocotepec and its Mexican character to countries worldwide, placing the name of Jocotepec in 52 countries. During the Covid-19 pandemic restrictions, some activities were carried out digitally, giving the opportunity to people from other countries to enjoy mariachi music.  This year the program will again be broadcast digitally.

Editor.– The municipality of Chapala is one of the venues that  will host the XXIX edition of the Encuentro Internacional del Mariachi y la Charrería to be held this year from August 25 to September 4 in different venues in the state of Jalisco  to promote tourism outside the Metropolitan Area of Guadalajara (AMG).

Chapala President Aguirre  announced at a press conference on the program of activities of the Encounter that Chapala will host a gala concert on Friday, August 26.

The Mayor of Chapala, accompanied by municipal officials, representatives of the Jalisco State Government and the Guadalajara Chamber of Commerce.

«One of the objectives of this Encounter is to extend to the municipalities of the state this celebration, so Chapala will host one of the events of this program. On  Friday, August 26 we will have a gala concert in our municipality,»  the mayor shared on his personal Facebook account.

In addition to the AMG, International Gala events will  also be held in Puerto Vallarta, Cocula, Tequila, Mazamitla, Jocotepec and Tapalpa with the presentation of mariachis from countries such as Mexico, Colombia, Chile, United States, Bolivia, Israel, Peru, Ecuador and Dominican Republic.

On August 27 and 28, 15 teams will participate in the Charro Championship will be held at the «Los 3 Potrillos» horse track on the highway between Chapala and Guadalajara.

This year  event organizers plan to continue with live broadcasts, as was done during the pandemic,  to reach approximately 13 million viewers from 50 countries in four continents: America, Europe, Asia and Oceania. 

The Mayor of Chapala thanked the Chamber of Commerce; Lourdes Ariadna González Pérez, Secretary of Culture; and Vanessa Pérez Lamas, Secretary of Tourism of Jalisco, for their support for Chapala’s participation in major international events such as the International Mariachi Encounter.
