Jocotepec municipality  has a population of 47,534 of which 24,129 are women, according to information from the Institute of Statistical and Geographic Information of Jalisco (IIEG), Jocotepec reports 870 attacks against women  throughout the municipality so far,  equivalent to 72.5 women attacked per month or  2.4 women per day. Héctor Ruiz Mejía: According to data obtained by Laguna through a transparency request, 2.4 women are attacked  everyday somewhere in the municipality of Jocotepec. San Juan Cosalá  is Jocotepec’s most dangerous town for women for the third straight year.

San Juan Cosalá continues to be the most violent town despite a slight drop in reported attacks on women from their high point in 2019 .  In that year authorities registered 224 attacks , which represented 18.6 women raped per month. The year 2020  saw a drop to 210 attacks (17.5 women per month) . In 2021 there have been a total of 126 reported cases (10.6 women per month) to date, but Cassandra Reyes, director of the Directorate of Substantive Equality,  warns that December, traditionally the month with the highest incidence of violence, is still ahead.

«Something strange happens  after Christmas and days of partying and alcohol before the New Year, the numbers of women victims of violence shoot up,» she  said.

The numbers from the towns at the west end of Lake Chapala (known as the headwaters) are not encouraging either. Since 2020 attacks on women have  increased almost double  over 2019 as  the municipal headwaters area recorded 109  cases in 2019 (9.08 women per month),  204 cases in 2020 (17 cases per month) and so far this year, 115 cases of violence have been reported (9.5 per month), with an anticipated increase  in December.

However, last year saw the highest number of attacks, with  972 cases at the municipal level, which represented 81 women assaulted per month, largely influenced by the confinement caused by the pandemic, explained Casandra Reyes.

«The confinement represented a challenge for the women who were raped, as this made them live full time with their attacker who, being unemployed, increased their alcohol consumption», explained Cassandra.

Redacción.- Una mujer que presuntamente sustrajo mercancía de una tienda departamental ubicada en el municipio de Chapala, fue arrestada por Oficiales de la Policía del Estado.

Los hechos se registraron en la avenida Hidalgo y Libramiento a Chapala, en la delegación de San Antonio Tlayacapan.

Fueron empleados de la tienda, quienes solicitaron la intervención de los oficiales estatales, que están asignados a brindar seguridad en dicho municipio.

Y es que, de acuerdo a lo relatado por los empleados de la tienda, la mujer ahora detenida presuntamente había introducido varios juguetes a una mochila para acampar, para luego salir sin pagar.

La señalada pretendía escapar, pero fue asegurada metros adelante y mediante la aplicación de los protocolos de seguridad, los policías estatales recuperaron la mercancía, consistente en cajas de diferentes juegos.

La presunta responsable se identificó como Yaratxi “N”, de 25 años, quien fue remitida ante el agente ministerial de la Fiscalía del Estado, donde ya la investigan.

Arturo Ortega. – Luego de la falta de respuesta por parte de la Mesa de Salud Jalisco para conceder la realización de reuniones para realización de celebraciones, el Ayuntamiento de Chapala anunció que sí se llevarán a cabo las fiestas patronales a realizarse en próximas fechas, pero con ciertas restricciones.

“El límite de horario será las 12:00 de la noche, aforo restringido a un máximo de personas (no especificado) y la instalación de filtros sanitarios, con responsabilidad para los gremios y grupos que organizan las festividades”, serán parte de las restricciones y responsabilidades.

Lo anterior se realizó por parte de las Autoridades Municipales, en atención a las diversas peticiones de los habitantes, grupos organizados y gremios, ha determinado que se conceden permisos para llevar a cabo eventos.

Entre las fiestas más esperadas en el municipio se encuentran las fiestas de San Andrés Apóstol, Santo Patrono del Pueblo Mágico de Ajijic que se celebrarán a través de un novenario que concluye el 30 de noviembre.

This month’s program opens with a presentation of «Ranzio, a fantastic zombie», a circus clown theater show that shows the difficulties of being and thinking differently in our society through a character that combines music, magic, circus and comedy. The presentation tookes place this Friday November 12 at 7:00 p.m. on Chapala’s malecon at the open-air forum «Salate de Felisa.» 

World music comes to Chapala with Phi and Tala Friks, two groups that will perform this Saturday, November 13, starting at 5:00 p.m. in San Antonio Tlayacapán’s plaza.

The sound of the guitar and transverse flute will be heard this Sunday, November 14, at the CCGG at 12:30 p.m., with the interpretation of David Mosqueda on strings and Nury Ulate on the wind instrument.

The whole family is invited to enjoy a beautiful sunset concert on the Ajijic boardwalk with Gil Rios Quartet and Marea Fandanguera on Saturday, November 20, starting at 6:00 p.m. 

A Concert with a Cumbia Flavor will be brought by the musical groups Los Afrodisíacos and La Pura Piña, who will conclude the program with a presentation at the open-air forum located on the Chapala boardwalk on November 27 at 7:00 pm.

Héctor Ruiz Mejía – In her first public act as deputy-elect, «Lolis» López, originally from Jocotepec, declared that she will seek a legislative agenda that is close to the people, to her district, as well as to promoting substantive equality, she said during the first open parliamentary session that took place on November 10 in the Jalisco State Congress.

The deputy was sworn in as president of the Substantive Equality and Gender Commission, and as a member of the Environment, Civil Protection and Resilience Commission. She aims to ensure better participation of women in both private and public spheres.

«Equality is not only a women’s issue, it is not a fight against men, it is a matter for everyone», explained López Jara, who stated that she will work towards all women having an impact on «an even floor of equal opportunities».

 López Jara presented the five axes of the program of Movimiento Ciudadano (MC) to a diverse audience including businessmen, activists and different media. She highlighted issues such as economic development, security, culture and corruption, especially the approach to the civilian population.

The Jocotepec congresswoman explained in an interview with Semanario Laguna that her plan is «to get to know the people» and explained that she intends to repeat the presentation  in her District (District 17). She has several times tried to hold similar formal events in delegations such as San Juan Cosalá, but attendance has been low. 

«These proposals are not conjectures, it will be an open parliament to listen to the entire civilian population because sometimes everything is concentrated only in the metropolitan area,» said Lolis.

López Jara served as a Councilor in the 2018-2021 administration, as well as a consultant for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs; in addition, she has attended various courses focused on leadership for women, and equality and gender perspectives

Miss Grand México 2021, Mariana Macias.

Redaction. – With the crown of Miss Grand México 2021, Mariana Macias of San Antonio Tlayacapan, will face a new challenge in the beauty pageant catwalks representing Chapala and México in the ninth edition of the Miss Grand International 2021 pageant, to be held from November 16 to December 5.

Mariana, who in a local media  interview  said that  hers would be México’s first participation in the Miss Grand International pageant, has begun the research about the host country and is ramping up her public speaking and catwalk schedule as well as her physical exercise, among other disciplines on her way to Thailand.

If she qualifies and  wins in the distinguished beauty pageant finals on December 4, the former Miss Jalisco 2019,  said that she will expand  her agenda of activities to include trips to different countries.  But for now, she feels like a winner in the vast increase in her self-confidence.

Redacción.- Luego de que se volcara la embarcación en la que viajaba acompañado de otras dos personas, el cuerpo de Moisés «N» fue encontrado sin vida, en el interior del lago por elementos de Bomberos y Protección Civil de Chapala.

El incidente habría ocurrido la noche del 14 de noviembre cuando Bomberos y Protección Civil recibieron el reporte que se hacía referencia a una canoa perdida con tres personas a bordo, y cuya embarcación se volcó cuando regresaban a la orilla.

Comunicación Social informó que el cuerpo fue localizado a las 13:45 de este 15 de noviembre, a 10 metros de donde se encontraba la embarcación hundida en la que viajaba.

La Capilla de Nuestra Señora del Rosario, en Ajijic, está a poco de iniciar el proyecto de restauración -evento del kilómetro del peso-.

Sofía Medeles (Ajijic, Jal.)- El proyecto de la restauración de la Capilla de Nuestra Señora del Rosario, ubicada en Ajijic, está muy cerca de iniciar, y es que, después de cuatro eventos para recaudar fondos, el grupo Sumando Voluntades ya se encuentra listo para dar el siguiente paso.

Su último evento, del pasado 31 de octubre -día de la Virgen del Rosario-, fue la carrera del Rosario en su séptima edición donde corrieron 180 corredores, además de la kermesse ese mismo día, que, en total reunieron 40 mil pesos, sumando un total aproximado de 350 mil pesos que el grupo tiene como fondo para empezar a trabajar.

El último evento fue la carrera del Rosario, en la cual, simultáneamente se realizó una kermesse.

El arquitecto que lleva el proyecto, Josué Ramos, comentó que ya se presentó el proyecto de restauración ante el Instituto Nacional de Antropología e Historia (INAH), el cual necesita algunas modificaciones para echarse a andar, no obstante, el capital reunido ya es el suficiente para iniciar.

“Nos pidieron que se volviera a hacer el proyecto estructural ya con las especificaciones brindadas por el arquitecto del INAH; a lo que el arquitecto dijo que quizás y no se tiene que gastar todo el capital en la primera etapa, ya que aseguró que eran cosas bastantes simples de inicio”, aseveró Josué.

La kermesse junto con la carrera logró reunir un aproximado de 40 mil pesos.

Además, agregó que por el momento, tienen algunos eventos en mente, aunque les falta planearlos bien o precisar la fecha de estos, pero a corto plazo, piensan parar un poco para enfocarse en el levantamiento arquitectónico y en la reestructuración necesaria.

“Seguiremos reuniendo fondos, pero más a futuro. Por el momento, estamos pensando en la venta de un póster en blanco y negro con la Virgen del Rosario y la Capillita de fondo, el cual, empezaríamos a vender en las fiestas patronales y cuando se tenga oportunidad”, finalizó el arquitecto Josué.

Sofía Medeles (Ajijic, Jal.)- The project for the restoration of Ajijic’s Chapel of Our Lady of the Rosary is very close to starting, and after four fundraising events, the group “Sumando Voluntades” or Summoning Volunteers is ready to take the next step.

Their most recent event was the seventh annual Run for the Rosary, held on the day of the Virgin of the Rosary, October 31, with 180 runners participating in the race. The race and the fair held on the same day raised 40 thousand pesos, giving a total of approximately 350 thousand pesos that the group has raised to start working.

The architect in charge of the project, Josué Ramos, said that the restoration project was presented to the National Institute of Anthropology and History (INAH) and needs some modifications, however, the capital raised is enough to get started.

«They asked us to revise the structural project to the specifications provided by the architect of the INAH. The architect said that we don’t have to spend all the capital in the first stage since they were quite simple things to start with,» Josué asserted.

He also added that they have more events in mind, although they have yet to plan the details or set the date. In the short term, they plan to focus on the architectural survey and the necessary restructuring.

«We will continue to raise funds for this project. For the moment, we are thinking of selling a black and white poster with the Virgin of the Rosary and the little chapel in the background, which we will start selling during the patron saint festivities and whenever we have the opportunity», concluded the architect Josué.

The preschool, elementary and high school students prepared a catwalk in which they wore their Catrinas, Catrines and skeleton costumes.

Instituto Terranova Writing Workshop. – The Terranova Institute celebrated the Day of the Dead like never before with the creation of an altar of the dead, a costume parade, folkloric dance numbers, and an aerial dance, among other activities.  Nine art and sports workshops allowed all students to participate and watch the events.

The preschool, elementary and high school students prepared a catwalk in which they wore their Catrinas, Catrines and skeleton costumes. Chess students performed a game with living pieces.

Students of the music workshop enlivened the festival with  songs,  while the students of the Acrobatics workshop performed a surprising display of their rope skills.  No less surprising was the aerial dance workshop.

Teachers and students made a six-level altar featuring a colorful sawdust mat, floral offerings, pan de muerto, sugar skulls, different dishes, and the typical papel picado, as well as photographs of loved ones.
